Art collectors in Malaysia shown tremendous interest in Islamic art in the last few years. To accommodate their needs and demands, the largest Islamic Arts Museum was established in the country in December 1998. Stretched on 30,000 sq metres, one would be mesmerized with the enthralling leafy surroundings of the museum as it is ideally located amidst the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens.

The museum displays over seven thousand artifacts and also houses a large library with an abundant of Islamic art books. To attract and appeal to larger crowds, the building displays wide range of items and antiques such as world’s largest scale model of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The decorations and facade were specially designed to represent the Islamic world accurately. Besides displaying extensive range of art works from Persia and Middle East, visitors can also find masterpieces from other Asia countries such as China and India.

Other collections are showcased and arranged based on their geographical origins in 12 different galleries. Incorporating Islamic world and modern contemporary design, the entrance is transformed into a ceramic tapestry to welcome all the visitors. The dome has also turned into the building’s crowning glory with its unique design. The captivating turquoise-coloured domes are a landmark in the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. Among some of the galleries available in the building are Jewelery Gallery, Woodwork Gallery, Metalwork Gallery, Ceramics & Glass Gallery as well as Textiles Gallery.
